Guest, dear fellow coffee consumer,
With wheels on either side of your back wheel, who didn’t find it an amazing happening when ones whole cycling experience changed into a great adventure and a lot of dangers laying on the road ahead?
Hi, I am Clemens Kampert, and I am going to explain you the Dutch rules concerning the use of bicycle lights. As a lot of you people don’t always know why you get a fine for something you did not do purposely, ‘completely innocent’ (read my next post to see what I try to say about the innocence by using these punctuations.)
I almost had find myself in a situation where I would make a violation of a rule concerning cycling in polluted air, fog or darkness – any situation in which your sight may be gravely decreasing.
So, how great might your adventure be at bad sight – from when it comes to which bicycle lights you can apply in surveilling the neighborhood, to crossing the forests of your hometown?
In a sudden, unrestrained wave I experienced recently, I watched a video and the website of Revolights, an American company, which brings revolutionary lights on the market. In this wave I didn’t realize that I was forgetting all about the legal question, asked at the start of the page.
Our national legislator doesn’t seem to like people to be fly with dope stuff to creatively pimp our old bicycle.
Flashing lights: no, the same goes for lights on ones legs and lights that move in the wheel, as spoke and valve lights. Looking at the legislation at this moment, cycling with these kind of lights is absolutely unacceptable. This is shown by the rules in article 35 and 35a of the Reglement Verkeersregels en Verkeerstekens.
Having the cool Revolights is therefore permitted, if only they do not flash. One thing is certain, you can have the flashing lights to point out a direction, as the Tacx Lumos lights. You should never violate a law, if it were only for the time invested in writing it. I hope you can turn off the flashing of the lights you choose to have on your bicycle and know you shouldn’t expect a permit of Snoopy lights or of any other renowned cartoon for your bicycle any time soon, as it is quite unrealistic to expect this happens in the near future.
